First of all, hello there tumblr. It’s been awhile :)
Okay, here I am again talking about education *deep inhale*. So today was just similar to any other school days, except for me getting psychologically forced to accept the
fact that I am academically stupid.
I’m on my senior year, and currently in the search of my future college. And like the rest of those typical asian parents, my parents suggest me to go for medical school, so that one day I could be a doctor like my father. My father, he’s really great. He’s supportive, and loving, and all. And I go for him, 80 percent of me is pushing myself to go for meds but 20 percent of me keeps on telling me that going to medical school isn’t really my desire. So anyway, I keep on studying. But I have so-so grades like D or E but safe from the limit of F.
Then today, along came this frightening list. A PMDK list, it’s a list of where smart asses got invited to go to universities (whether it’s public or private) without any elimination stage. As you all may guessed, I didn’t make it to that list. But no, I’m not that disappointed because I know my own grades won’t go that far (and I made it all out of my own). So, yeah. But some of my friends were sad and some even freaked out that they didn’t make it to the list.
Here’s my opinion:
1) As long as you have your current grades out of your blood and sweats in honesty, be proud whether it’s E or even an F.
Which then leads you to realize that you’re born as a hardcore student, you’re made to work hard and practice a lot more than the smarter kids do. The only way to beat them is through your diligence and worldwide knowledge that they probably won’t know.
2) Unless you live in Indonesia, scores won’t do that much. I remember my lifetime education hero, Anies Baswedan, once said “the one who can make it through social and technical obstacles in his/her carrier is they who apply what they’ve received from their educators of the past, not the one who has IP (grade index on college) of 4.00”. I put all of my faith in his words. I mean, let’s think of it, what’s the use for you to be knowing theoretically how to make a flame if you can’t practically make it? Compared to a cave man who might be knowing none but just made a friction out of two sticks in order to burn them up, out of his natural instinct?
3) Some of you might think it’s least important, but it’s the most essential out of all. Have you prayed enough?
Let’s think of it for a while. I may think that myself is academically less than the others, but I’m sure I’m more in at least one thing than all of them. God created a man better in a way and worse in a way than his others. Education IS important, it’s inevitably important for the mankind. But then again, grades and scores AREN’T. So educate yourself not to pursue the scores but the life skills itself that you might use for your future jobs. Cheer up and good luck, comrades :)
